शक्ति यात्रा

A Tale in Motion

"An interactive illustrated rolling theatre narrating the story of VIJAYDASHMI, designed to introduce children (5–12 years) to Navratri through traditional visual storytelling."

This project reimagines the Vijayadashami story as a moving visual experience. Instead of using screens or digital tools, I created a handcrafted rolling theatre that unfolds the narrative scene by scene through illustrated scrolls.

The aim was to preserve cultural storytelling while making mythology engaging, accessible, and visually exciting for young audiences.

This project combines illustration, storytelling, spatial thinking, and physical prototyping.

*The illustrations were printed on butter paper to allow light to pass through and create a glowing effect.*

Theatre Construction

The theatre structure was built using PVC sunboard for durability and portability. Rollers were created to rotate the illustrated scroll smoothly.

A backlight was installed behind the butter paper to enhance depth and create a shadow-play effect.

Challenge: Ensuring smooth scroll movement.
Solution: Adjusting scroll tension & refining the roller mechanism.

Final Outcome

The movement of the scroll builds anticipation, while controlled lighting creates drama and focus. The project demonstrates how traditional methods can create powerful engagement without relying on AR/VR.
